Botox® is the name by which Botulinum Toxin is generally known as. It is also known by the brand name Vistabel®

Botox® has been successfully used in ophthalmic medical treatments for 50 years, and has been used for cosmetic procedures since 1987, when it was discovered that patients who received the treatment for controlling muscular spasm around the eye ( blepharospasm) did not get crows feet or wrinkles round that area.

Botox® acts as a localised muscle relaxant and can be used for many medical conditions as well as for the reduction or eradication of lines and wrinkles.

Botox® is extremely effective for the treatment of wrinkles particularly across the forehead and around the eyes.

Botox® is injected directly into the muscle using extremely fine needles. Very few people report any discomfort, and anaesthetic cream is available for people who are particularly sensitive.

The effects are normally evident after 4 days. Muscles in the body are balanced and the face is no exception. Whilst the effect on the muscle group treated can be relatively swift, the effect on the immediate counter muscle ( and hence the full effect) can take a little longer.

Botox® ( branded as Vistabel®) is the only product of this type that is licensed for cosmetic use in the UK.
