Refractive
PRK
In this method the surface cells of the cornea are first mechanically brushed off and the laser energy is applied to the firm corneal tissue called the stroma. The procedure itself is absolutely painless.
The cornea takes a few days to heal however and maybe quite painful for the first 24-48 hours, during which time you will be given pain relief.
During the healing and settling down phase, vision may deteriorate slightly before it gets better. This is perfectly normal.
During the healing process some scar tissue can form. This can leave behind a thin haze on the cornea and can take some months to clear. In some instances, when the haze is excessive, it can cause symptoms of glare, star burst effect and slightly reduced vision.
PRK has been largely superceded by LASEK
